Biography

DJ M, born in Thailand in 1975, studied Thai Classical Dance, Ballet & modern dance with an emphasis on Hip Hop, Jazz and Rap with Bangkok Dance Studio. He choreographed and taught Rap Dance and Jazz at the Bangkok Dance Studio in 2001. As a professional dancer, he performed both as a member of Variety Dance Group and of Free Dance, a dance team he formed in 1993 and in free lance work with other dance groups. He represented Thailand at an International Dance Competition in Manila in 2002. A former gymnast, he combined dance and gymnastic techniques and evolved a highly individual style winning many prizes and accolades for his innovative and exciting choreography.

Early in his dance career he developed the habit of mixing different elements of music to create a dance score. It was a logical step from there to DJ, with  a very personal, thoughtful style of mixing multiple songs into a complex, multilayered rich musical expression that incorporates elements of house, electro-house, progressive house, trance and popular vocals. His remixes are generally fresh and innovative and the overall mood is always happy and upbeat.

DJ M was resident DJ at Happen Bar, Silom Soi 2 Bangkok, Thailand from September 2005 until January 2006 when the bar closed for renovation. From April 2006 through March 2008, he was Director of audio visual programs and Resident DJ at the renovated bar called NEO, a dance bar in the hub of Thailand’s gay nightlife.  At NEO he gained a reputation for delivering a fresh and exciting club experience.  He was responsible for lighting and music for all special events held at NEO including Bangkok Gay Pride, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and Songkran, the Thai New Year, annually throughout his tenure at NEO.

He was a guest DJ at the 2007 Gay Pride Celebrations, in Patong Beach, Phuket and was the frontliner at SWEAT, a PLUTO sponsored party at Culture Club, Bangkok in April 2008. Following closure of NEO in the summer of 2008,  DJ M set about developing his career as a DJ on the international circuit.  He debuted in Japan at Arty Farty, a long standing favorite dance bar in Tokyo’s vibrant boystown, Shinjuku Nichome on August 8 to 10, 2008.

He was DJ for Davina’s Diamond Jubilation Party at Sphinx, Silom Rd, Bangkok, October 2008. He returned as guest DJ for a second performance at Arty Farty, Tokyo, Japan on March 6, 2009 and debuted at Annex, another popular watering hole in Nichome, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan on March 7, 2009.  He was a contestant in Boi Magazine/Centaur Music’s Next POPular DJ Contest in Chicago, IL spinning at the popular Andersonville neighbourhood bar, @tmosphere on March 18, 2009.

He was Special Guest DJ for Club Dragon@ EightSF in San Francisco on March 27, 2009.  He was Guest DJ for Cosmo-Electro Night at Hula’s, Honolulu, HI on April 2,  2009  and Guest DJ for Vocal/House/Trance at Hula’s on April 3, 2009.  He was frontliner for Universal Player’s NIGHT TRAIN Party at Club Ibiza, Bangkok on May 9, 2009. DJ M provided music for TRADE SHOW Bangkok at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Asoke on June 6, 2009.  He joined DJ Maxxx at Bar Bar, Silom Soi 4 playing his signature music of vocal pop favorites remixed with house, electro house, tribal and trance treatment in June 2009.

In July 2009, he was invited to contribute his Current Top Ten Favorite Songs to Tag Art Music ONLINE’s monthly listing of international DJs current top ten favorite songs. He joined TagArt Music ONLINE’s Line up of international DJs with a fortnightly radio show, COME DANZ with DJ M that has aired every other Sunday evening since August 2009.

DJ M continued to develop his reputation on the international circuit with a retrun to HULA’S, Hawaii, USA for 3 nights in July 2009 followed by a Guest DJ appearance at VOLUME, Hong Kong, China in August 2009. Recent Guest appearances include The Babylon, Bangkoks 22nd Anniverary Bachannal Party in Nov 2009, Babylon, Bangkok’s New Years Eve Party December 2009.

January 2010 saw his debut in Cambodia at the Linga Bar, Siem Reap. He will be returning as Guest DJ to the Linga Bar for Chinese New Year Celebrations on Feb 13, 2010 and Valentine’s Day Party on February 14, 2010. He has accepted an appointment as RESIDENT GUEST DJ for the LINGA BAR, Siem Reap, Cambodia  from March 2010 onwards and will make monthly appearances or prepare and prerecord 2 hour DJ M Fusion Mix house music set specifically for Linga Bar to play.
