I am so sad about the political demonstrations in Bangkok over the last 2 months. The Thai have a long history of independence, largely because of our culture of respect and love for our King, long may he live, and the law, our Buddhist faith and our mutual personal respect. I am sure most of the members of the various groups that have recently formed around opposing socio-policitical views are sincere in their beliefs but I would urge them to consider the paramount importance of national unity. I hope that we can find our way back to sharing a common goal for the good of all in Thailand.

It has been 9 months since I posted my first podcast to www.podomatic.com. The site statistics today reveal that I now have 30 podcasts on the site, with 656 subscribers and that  my music has been downloaded more than 5,000 times. On friday March 12, 2010 DJ M will be at LINGA BAR, Siem Reap, Cambodia spinning an evening of house music. The evening of musical entertainment will be the first of DJ M @ HOME with HOUSE presentations at Linga Bar. In these monthly appearences DJ M will spin a set of house music incorporating old favorite and new songs and music freshly remixed with his signature DJM FUSION MIX style specially for the Linga Bar presentations. DJ M has accepted the position of RESIDENT GUEST DJ for the LINGA BAR in Siem Reap, Cambodia [ www.lingabar.com ] effective March 2010.  He will appear at the LINGA BAR on a regular basis to play house music in his  DJ M FUSION style.

What does the term DJ M FUSION style mean.  As a former dancer and choreographer, DJ M constructs his remixes around a strong dance beat reflecting both melody and harmony of the music. This strong dance line runs through the entire set. He adds additional musical elements and sounds to modulate the mood and emotional content of the music, thereby moulding and forming the overall color and feel of the complete set. as it unfolds.  The strong unwavering dance line makes his music very “danceable” to coin a word. Fans of his music know that it is almost impossible to sit still when listening to his music.  Because the primary  focus for DJ M is the dance component, he adds any musical element that creates the right mood and feeling he wants to convey to the dancers, to move them, to have them respond as dancers!  That musical element could be of many possible styles including electro  house, progressive house, deep house, tribal house, trance or any combination of these. Thus, his music is not easily characterized by a particular style of house music.

To use a food metaphor as an illustrative example, the Chef who combines different cuisines to create a new dish may start with a basic French dish, add some Asian spices, some Morrocan ingredients resulting in a glorious melange of tastes, not French, not Asian,  not Morrocan but a fusion of all three that excites the senses unlike any of the individual cuisines might, so called fusion cuisine.  By mixing different elements of house music with the single aim of achieving the right mood and color in dance music, DJ M creates a  FUSION mix that hopefully will urge the dancer to ever greater heights of expression and enjoyment .

At the LINGA BAR, DJ M will present FUSION  house music sets collectively named  “AT HOME WITH HOUSE”.  DJ M: “AT HOME WITH HOUSE” CD  albums will be available in the Bar.

DJ M will return to Siem Reap, Cambodia as Guest DJ for the Linga Bar’s celebrations of Chinese New Year on Saturday February 13, 2010 and Valentine’s Day Party on Sunday February 14, 2010. The Chinese New Year Celebrations will also include a show by the Cambodian troupe, Diamond Paradise. This talented group of local entertainers will add their colorful costumes, effervescent song and dance routines to DJ M’s powerful remixes for an evening of entertainment full of fun, color, excitement, dance and great music in recognition of the commencement of the Year of the Tiger.

DJ M will present an evening of love music to enchant and bewitch all lovers with his eclectic DJ M FUSION remixes of your favorite oldies and his current favorite contemporary love sings.

LOVE ALWAYS, a love music CD, prepared especially for this occasion by DJM and produced by GOG Productions, Bangkok, Thailand in conjunction with The Linga Bar, Siem Reap, Cambodia will be available for purchase as a memento of an evening of love and enchantment woven into a magical musical tapestry by the artistry of DJ M and the ambience of the Linga Bar.

On Friday , January 15, 2010 from 9:00 PM DJ M will be guest DJ at the Linga Bar, Siem Reap, Cambodia. This will be his first appearance at the Linga Bar and in Cambodia.

The Linga Bar [www.lingabar.com] is the hot spot in Siem Reap’s Old Market, arguably the coolest part of town today. That area of town is morphing into a sophisticated melange of ultra chic hotels [The One Hotel, Hotel Be Angkor, www.theonehotelcollection.com], galleries and boutiques.

The name Linga refers to carvings of religious significance from the Khmer Empire.  Lingas, phallic cylinders symbolic of the god Shiva were widely used in the Khmer Empire in ritual worship to represent the creative energy, strength and fertility of the god and the power of the divine kings of the Khmer Empire. The Linga  symbolized the king’s power to confer fertility and prosperity to his people and lands.

At the hillside River of a Thousand Lingas, the riverbed has numerous linga sculptures carved into the stone. The Khmer believed that these lingas fertilized Angkor’s fields as the river flowed over the sacred pillars and into the countryside below.

Surviving lingas were carved in polished stone or crystal. Lingas of several different forms survive from the Angkorean period. Some lingas are implanted on a flat square base, termed a yoni that is symbolic of a womb. Mukhalingas have the face of the god Shiva engraved on them.  More complex, segmented lingas portraying a square base symbolizing Brahma, an octagonal middle section representing Vishnu and a round tip symbolic of Shiva.

DJ M has been focussing his attention more on the transition from one song to the next in his recent remixes, in addition to the traditional beat matching used by all DJs, DJ M is more finely merging the rhythms of the 2 songs to generate new and different sounds, increase the complexity of the transition creating a new area of interest for both the dancer and listener.  Patrons at the Linga Bar should concentrate their listening on the transitions between songs, they may be surprized and certainly DJ M would love any feedback.

DJ M has always prepared fresh new remixes of the songs and music he plans to play for any specific event or party. Mostly these became compilations that would fill a CD. When he started to use the podcast site for loading music for his fans to download easily at no cost, the one CD size fits all worked as well. However, he has come to realize that some people don’t want a whole album, are keen to have just a particular favorite song. The remixed singles he has on his website player have proved to be popular.  Thus, to meet the wishes  of some of his fans DJ  M will post links to Mediafire.com download sites for all the singles he remixes and loads onto the website player. Please look for the links on the LINKS page of this website. Each Singles Remixed will be posted as the only file in a Folder bearing the song and performers name for any particular download site. In the event that DJ M produces more than one remix of a single song, the folder will hold all files of remixes of the same song.

DJ M uploads his albums and remix compilations to www.podomatic.com/profile/djaym for the listening pleasure of his fans. The music can also be downloaded free of charge. Yesterday the 20th podcast, entitled DANCE CELEBRATIONS 2009 was uploaded.  These 20 podcast/albums represent a sizable collection of DJ M’s remixes and showcase his unique Fusion Mix style. A musical style that incorporates elements of most forms of House music, tribal influences and trance. DJ M chooses the element or song and style that fit the mood, color and emotion of the remix and most importantly is harmonically and musically appropriate for the rest of the song or set. Dancers respond to many aspects of the disco/rave experience but it is the intrinsic harmony and musicality of the remixes that keeps them on their feet and dancing , dancing, dancing.

For those who listen to dance music with a critical musically aware ear rather than respond emotionally to the feelings and mood of the music, the intrinsic musicality is key.  Complex remixes that add layers of variation to the primary song or melody line make for a much more satisfying listening experience, the music seems  more 3 dimensional. Thus incorporating different elements of house/trance music into his remixes enables DJ M to weave an aural tapestry, rich in color and texture, with depth and musically fresh variation. DJ M creates a new compilation with fresh remixes for all of his fortnightly radio shows on www.tagartmusic.com. These sets are subsequently uploaded to the podcast site to enable those who missed the radio broadcast to listen to the new remixes and download the music if they wish.   Therefore, you can expect to find at least one new podcast/album every two weeks. DJ M has been invited to spin as a featured Guest DJ at the upcoming Bountiful Babylon Bacchanal Party to be held on Sunday November 22, 2009 at The Babylon, Bangkok in celebration of The Babylon’s 22nd anniversary serving the gay community.

The party, described as “If you are not God fearing and can’t behave like mature, sensible, dignified adults this is the party for you! An event of unrestrained revelry/orgy of biblical proportions” Entertainment will include hunky farang coyote dancers, a Thai classical puppet show from guest artist Jolois, followed by music and dancing to several hot DJs.
